We know how frustrating it can feel

You’ve tried patient explanations, practice sheets and online programs, but your child is still frustrated, avoiding homework, or falling behind.

Maybe reading feels like a chore.
Maybe maths ends in tears.
Maybe they’re bright, curious and capable, but something isn’t clicking in the classroom.

Or maybe you’re an adult who’s ready to fill the gaps that school never covered. You’d love to feel confident reading, writing, or handling numbers at work, but you don’t know where to start.

At Literate Learners, we understand the worry, the self-doubt and the quiet hope that something could be different.

We’re here to make learning feel clear, possible and even enjoyable again.

Strong foundations for lifelong confidence

From early literacy to professional writing, every program is built on evidence-based teaching practice and designed to help learners of all ages build strong, transferable skills for life.

Mathematics

The minds behind Literate Learners

Behind every lesson at Literate Learners is a dedicated team of specialist educators. Together, we bring decades of combined teaching and literacy intervention experience to the students we support across Springfield and Ipswich.

Our team includes classroom teachers, literacy specialists, numeracy tutors and educators trained in structured, evidence-based programs. Each tutor brings a blend of expertise, empathy and encouragement to their sessions.

We work collaboratively, share insights, and continuously refine our practice so every learner feels supported.

The Literate Learners methodology

We combine evidence-based practice with compassionate, responsive teaching. Every session is intentionally structured to meet the learner’s unique profile, building capability, confidence and engagement with learning.

Evidence-based instruction

Our tutors are literacy specialists who understand how the brain learns. Every program we offer is grounded in the Science of Reading and contemporary research into how students build and retain knowledge.

We use explicit, systematic, and cumulative instruction to strengthen essential literacy and numeracy skills, ensuring every learner experiences clarity, progress, and confidence.

Programs such as Sounds-Write and other structured literacy approaches form the foundation of our teaching, supporting phonemic awareness, decoding, spelling, and comprehension through direct, scaffolded instruction.

We focus on:
  • Explicit instruction – concepts are modelled clearly, practised purposefully and reinforced through feedback.
  • Cumulative progression – new knowledge builds logically on what’s already mastered.
  • Multisensory engagement – integrating visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learning pathways to enhance retention.

A positive, student-centred environment

We believe learning isn’t just cognitive, it’s also emotional. Our sessions are intentionally designed to promote psychological safety, curiosity and self-efficacy.

We value progress over perfection and celebrate every milestone, no matter how small.

This means we:

Foster a growth mindset

Through encouragement and reflection.

Prioritise learner agency

Inviting students to take ownership of their progress.

Use positive reinforcement

And relational teaching to build trust and intrinsic motivation.

Individualised pathways

Every learner begins with an informal assessment or diagnostic review, allowing us to design an individual learning plan that targets specific needs and goals.

Whether working one-on-one or in a small group, instruction is differentiated to the learner’s level, pace and preferred mode of engagement.

We offer:

  • Face-to-face and online sessions to provide flexible access to quality instruction.
  • Continuous monitoring and feedback, ensuring progress is visible and celebrated.
  • Goal-driven intervention plans that evolve with the learner’s growth.

Confidence grows here

I’m an adult who was seeking tutoring, and Literate Learners stepped up and took me on.

I’m so lucky that they have been happy to help and provide me with a high-quality tutor. Finding a team to assist an adult is almost impossible; however, the Literate Learners team said, “No problem!” They have accommodated me with compassion, patience, belief, and exceptional skill.

Thank you, Literate Learners! I highly recommend you to all adults and children seeking assistance.

Mark - Adult learner

My son has been doing Literate Learners for sometime now. He truly loves working with Mrs Yabsley.

She is kind, friendly and makes the classes special and fun. My son’s favourite part was playing some games on the computer with sounds and seeing if he could be beat the teacher.

My son loves working with her and looks forward to his sessions every week.

And his literacy has really improved from when he first started. I could really see the difference.

A wonderful, amazing teacher!! Awesome literacy support!

Joelene has been tutoring my daughter Willow (8) since May last year. Willow had a brain tumour removed in September 2023 and she was struggling with her learning and where she should be for her age. She started with face to face training and now does online. She has come leaps and bounds with her literacy and numeracy since she started tutoring. Highly recommend Joelene! She is so patient, fun and knowledgeable!
